Liberties Call
By John Oross
Soldiers’ lined up against the wall
Bullets fly then they fall
Someone’s filming to send to all
Commercialized terror is their aim
Soldiers’ lined up against the wall
Bullets fly then they fall
Someone’s filming to send to all
Commercialized terror is their aim
All this death in his name
Liberty and freedom paid in blood
Lives the coins that are paid
No price too great and no life too small
Many answered their nation’s call
May God see them safely home
Unmarked graves in the sand
Wives and husbands with empty hands
Children can never understand
Hearts so young now filled with hate
When they should only know love
Greed leads us to evil deeds
We then sow the devil’s seeds
Intolerance, hatred then to war
Death knocking upon life’s door
Love of life is worth so much more.
A Puppet with many Strings
By John Oross
I used to work real hard
A circus life no lie
One day then another
Simply flew on by…
I used to work real hard
A circus life no lie
One day then another
Simply flew on by
It’s true what they say about working another man’s dream
Your life fades… follow your own dreams
The future comes on hard
So put aside your past
Embrace all the wisdom learned
And have yourself a blast
It’s true what they say about time not standing still
For times a… bitter fricken pill…
I am just a puppet
With many different strings
When the master pulls
I get into the swing
It’s true what they say about not controlling a thing
Doesn’t this have… a bitter fricken ring…
Age has taken its toll
Still a puppet with many strings
When the master pulls
Ya it’s hard to get into the swing
It’s true what they say you still don’t control a thing
Soon the time will come… you know what I mean…
Suddenly your time has come
And you’re placed upon a shelf
All of your strings are cut
You’re replaced by someone else
It’s true what they say about having an identity
Even though your strings are cut… you’ll never be free…
As you’re removed from the fricken shelf
You end up in a box
All by your fricken self
Oh to be forgotten
Unwanted for anything
Oh ya wouldn’t you know… You still don’t control a thing…
Suddenly the box is opened
By a new set of hands
They clean and polish you up
And put on some new strings
When the master pulls
You get into the swing
Oh ya wouldn’t you know… You still don’t control a thing…
No matter the roll
No matter the goal
No matter the place
No matter the time
You’re the same as before… A puppet with many strings…
Skid-Row
By John Oross
Ill chill wind blows
Cold biting skin
Down to the bone
Makeshift shelter
No comfort
No home
Skid-Row
Ill chill wind blows
Cold biting skin
Down to the bone
Makeshift shelter
No comfort
No home
The storm is upon them
Sally-Ann is full
Living death
Way back when
Each person’s story
Is similar to a degree
Some sort of trauma
Bad luck befallen
Forced them to flee
Walking away
Death of their will
(Insert refrain)
Their spirit trapped
Within a vessel broken
Shattered lives
Purgatory’s kiss
Hiding from the past
Wandering death
Its embrace overpowers
The weak minded
Broken hearted
Down trodden, shredded
Lying upon the ground
waiting for their end
(Insert refrain)
Unable to cope
Begging for coins
Broken vessels all
Ambassadors of society
Unable to feel
Unable to see
Unable to heal
Unable to conceal
Left to fate
Life-less reality
They enter the void
All are equal on this path
(Insert refrain)
Welcome to Skid-Row
Refrain:
Welcome to Skid-Row
Nowhere to run
Welcome to Skid-Row
Nowhere to go
Welcome to Skid-Row
Nowhere to run
Welcome to Skid-Row
Nowhere to go
HOCKEY HEROES
By John Oross
E G D A E (ACOUSTIC)
Hockey was born of the mind but has its own soul.E G D A E (ACOUSTIC)
Hockey was born of the mind but has its own soul.
A sport which brings joy to all! Whether they be young or old.
Each person, a story they hold, waiting for a time ’til it be told.
Special moments with family and friends, a moment in time, yet with no end.
To bear witness as history’s told, in awe and wonder, our heroes we hold.
CHORUSA sport which brings joy to all! Whether they be young or old.
Each person, a story they hold, waiting for a time ’til it be told.
Special moments with family and friends, a moment in time, yet with no end.
To bear witness as history’s told, in awe and wonder, our heroes we hold.
Heroes who strive to be among the best! Each game, a gift. But also, a test.
Although their time has come and gone, their games now at an end.
We have dreamt and lived through them all, of this, we do defend.
Although their jerseys are now all hung and sticks are on display,
They still find time to stop and play, our game, for charity.
CHORUS
Individually, we shall always cherish our heroes; they stand out above the rest.
To have lived life to the fullest and to be acknowledged as great, the very best of the best.
They have embraced and lived, to have become their dreams!
Not just individually, but as players, groups of individuals, for their teams.
Now they hope to instill in the young, “Be the best they can be.”
This is done through time spent, with us, for all to see.
CHORUS
On blades they stride upon the ice with passion for the game.
A life of discipline, truth be told, in pursuit of a cup and ring.
Our heroes, our minds do hold. Memories flash, stories now told.
From the shadows, history past, our heroes are now in the hall, at long last.
As Stanley’s held on high for all to see, they won our hearts through our game.
CHORUS
A G D F G A
A G D F G E
Not all make the grade, it’s a hard game to grab hold of.
But for those few who do, an Induction is held for you.
Wihin the HALL, your memories enshrined for us all to behold.
A simple gift for those who follow
F G A
Who strive to be our Hockey Heroes….
(repeat one last time final line for finale)
Who strive to be our Hockey Heroes….
